TNEB introduces new system for bill payment

User Rating: / 11

ERODE: The Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB) has decided to introduce a new system for electricity usage assessment and bill payment for consumers coming under low-tension category in Erode zone (Erode, Namakkal and Salem districts) with effect from December 1. The new system will allow the consumers to pay their electricity bills on all working days of a month, which will bring down the rush at the collection counters.

In the current system, the usage assessment is normally carried out between 16th and 30th of a month, while electricity consumption charges have to be paid before 15th. The new system allows consumers to pay their electricity bills on any day of a month but not later than 20 days after electricity usage assessment is made. For instance, if the assessment is made on the first day of a month, then the consumers will have to pay the charges on or before 20th of the same month.

Under the new system, the assessment will be carried out throughout the month, though there is no change in the bi-monthly billing cycle for the consumers. The board had asked the consumers to express their grievances, if any, regarding the usage assessment to the respective divisional offices within five days after the assessment was made.

The board officials said that the implementation of the new system would enable consumers to pay their bills without waiting in queue at bill collection centres even if it was the last date. Officials appealed to the consumers to co-operate with the board for the effective implementation of the new system. Consumers could obtain more information about the system at the nearby TNEB offices.
